A topic for our NHL chat. Lets talk about how well our teams are doing and what do you think the play offs are going to look like.

The Boston Bruins have already clinched a play off spot.

roller-skating or skateboarding?
I skateboard but can only cruise around.
Ice skating; trained through Freestyle 6 (double jumps). I skate-boarded a very long time ago. I had a hobie skateboard :D
WOW that is cool. How long did you do that?
Started when I was 10 and trained until I was 17. I still skate. ;)

How often do you ice skate now?

And that's cool you skate-boarded. What sort of tricks were you able to do? If you were to try now, do you think you'd be able to pick it up again fast? :)

I rarely cycle, and when I do, it's almost scary and it takes a while for me to remember how to balance again, but nowhere near as long as it would have taken if it were my first time :p

It's been awhile since I've skated. We had several ice storms in January and February and I was all set to skate but it was just too cold this year. I don't recall great tricks on my skateboard except for popping off a curb and maybe flipping back and forth and that spin thing with the board raised...lol. I also skied, and roller skated too, the physics are all the same between ice skating, skiing, skate boarding and roller skating. We have bikes and like you, would have to start out slow to get used to balance. :p

I agree that it's the same between ice skating, skiing and roller skating.
I feel it's different for skateboarding as 2 feet are on the same object :p
There's a reason why you can do more tricks during ice-skating than skate-boarding, aye? 😎

What about roller-skating? Any tricks on that?

I have no idea what you're referring to, would you be able to provide specific names of the tricks you refer to? Either way you're better than me as all I can do is to cruise around as I only have a penny board, not great for tricks as it's easier to get balance right on long boards

What's the temperature been like?
Does the USA not consist of indoor ice skating? Maybe not I suppose if there's enough ice outdoors in your state all year round

I used rollerblades/inline skates to roller skate and you could do most of the same tricks on inline skates as ice skates, the problem is the pavement hurts when you crash and burn, so what I did on roller skates were 2-foot spins, backward crossovers, spirals, basically safe stuff. ;)

It was so long ago that I skateboarded I'd actually have to look up the names of the tricks....lol...I can assure you I did pretty basic moves though.

The USA is all over the map on temps depending on where you live. There are indoor skating rinks and they are nice to use as long as they aren't too busy. My experience is they are usually too busy and your figure skaters in training rule the center ice, as they should, however, kind of hard to do much unless you have private ice time. Maybe some day I'll add that to my bucket list?

I thought you are a figure skater though. You mentioned it. So I assumed you can do all those eye-catching tricks. I suppose you're not confident enough to not bump into people? lol

Oh, sure. The most pain you can get on ice is the shock from falling on your butt, from my experience, lol. Even then it doesn't happen every often as I control my fall (and make a scene which ppl laugh at :p ) .

Do share if you ever remember :)

Don't know anything about roller-skating lol. I really wanted to as a kid, but my parents were too scared for me to try and fall. I'll have to look it up. May buy some now to make up for my kid days :p

Um....skating is instinctive when you've trained for many years, no matter how old you are...so I wouldn't be bumping into people, I would be speeding by them and taking over the ice, but now that I'm older I'm more polite and understand the concept of training for the younger people that need their space, in the middle if that makes sense? Yes, I can still do flips, Ina Bauer's, spread eagles, various one-foot spins, spirals, lunges, waltz jumps (super easy) etc. I won't do an axle anymore as that would require a coach and that's okay. I'm fine with knowing my boundaries and the need to stay more on the ice rather then in the air lol.:D

Yeah, falling on the ice can hurt. I used knee pad when I was learning new jumps. If I remember any skateboard stuff, I'll share.

My state has mild to cold winters, but not super cold unless we have an Arctic blast, and summers are brutally hot over 100F degrees.

You may really enjoy roller skating, just remember to get the knee pads, elbow pads and hand protection, maybe a cool helmet for falls if you should try. It may open a new world to you....get a friend to try it with you :)

Hurricanes would be my favourite team.
Hurricanes is a sport team?
